My Top Digital Tools For Organizing (Part 1)
Ever feel like life could just be easier? Every. Single. Day. Life has gotten so hectic that it’s hard to do these basic things like get dinner on the table, remember basic things, send an email or get a good night’s sleep. I know I’m not alone here. There has to be an app for THAT stuff, right?! Of course there is. In this series, I will share my personal favorite digital tools, apps, and websites for organizing the struggle that is modern life.
Plan To Eat:
This is, by far, the best meal planning service around. I’ve been a member since 2010! What originally sold me on PTE was the ability to add in my family recipes, import recipes from anywhere on the web (with photos included), AND make a quick and easy grocery list that I could either print on view on my phone. If you alter recipes often, this is a great tool too. You can rate and make notes on each recipe and you can EASILY edit and alter recipes that you’ve imported. You can also duplicate a recipe and edit it so that you then have multiple versions of the same base recipe. Brilliant! I was hesitant to spend money on meal planning at first, but as any frugal person will tell you, the best way to reign in your grocery budget is to plan your meals. The best time to sign up, or extend your current plan is around Black Friday. This is the only Black Friday sale I hit every year!
BOOMERANG for gmail:
Ever get an email that you can’t handle right away- but you know you’ll likely forget about it because you’re SO BUSY. You know- that REALLY IMPORTANT email that arrives as you’re dashing out the door to wherever and you just can’t even deal with it… Well, Boomerang solves this and more of your email dilemmas. Boomerang is a gmail extension that will allow you to move an email back to the top of your inbox at a certain date and time when you are more likely able to deal with it. Other amazing email tricks- it can remind you to follow up with an email recipient when you don’t hear back from them. Now you’re look like you’re totally on top of things! And I’ve saved the best for last- email is great but sometimes I just want to be able to write an email when I have the time and schedule it to send at the appropriate time. So if you live your life in email, you can save time by whipping out a bunch of emails at once and scheduling them to go out on time. Never worry about forgetting about any email related tasks again! You can get Boomerang FREE to start. I’ve actually been using the free plan for months. For info and pricing go to http://www.boomeranggmail.com/
If cleaning up and organizing your email inbox appeals to you, check out Unroll.me. This site will EASILY unsubscribe you from those annoying mailing lists that you didn’t really want to be on anyway. Also- if you still want to get those daily emails but want to streamline your inbox, you can choose to “roll up” your emails into one daily digest email with all the sales, specials, and offers in it. One email per day. That’s it. Amazing. And it’s free. And it’s FAST. You can even do it on your phone. Get on your way to inbox zero! https://unroll.me/
Passwords. They can be a real DISASTER, right? Either you choose your dog’s name and use the same password for everything or you make each password so cryptic that you forget them all. It seems like you can’t win. Dashlane collects your passwords and stores them securely. I’m sure I could use some fancy encryption jargon here- but I don’t know any. Just go to the website for that- because this has been a life-changer!
Dashlane has a desktop application and an app so you can also get to ALL of your passwords on your phone. You can also share passwords securely with another user. But wait, there’s more! This also can store your credit card numbers securely as well as secure notes, and even receipts. And Dashlane will also autofill your credit card info and passwords for you, if you choose. Never having to get up to get your wallet again= priceless. There’s also an emergency feature where you can set up an emergency contact who can get your selected passwords or notes in an emergency (after your chosen set time limit has elapsed). Worried about security? You can have Dashlane’s password generator make up brand new secure passwords and save them for you. They’ve really thought of everything here- and that’s why I do have the premium version of this app. You can do a surprising amount of this stuff in the free version though- so check it out! https://www.dashlane.com/
